Code of Ethics and Me

The following are the 3 chosen ideals I found from the NAEYC code of ethics. These 3 were chosen because of the importance for teachers to be able to realize each child's diverse needs and the needs of their families. We have been discussing the importance of recognizing families of different cultures and how teachers can provide resources that will help the child and his or her families. I want to remember these 3 and use them as part as my own code of ethics for my classroom/center.

I-1.3

—To recognize and respect the unique qualities,
abilities, and potential of each child.

I-1.10
—To ensure that each child’s culture, language,
ethnicity, and family structure are recognized and
valued in the program

I-1.11
—To provide all children with experiences in a
language that they know, as well as support children
in maintaining the use of their home language and in
learning English.

  1. Hi Elizabeth, I think all three of these are good. I especially like the first one. "To recognize and respect the unique qualities, abilities, and the potential of each child" is so important. As a special educator this is exactly what we have to do. At times educators tend to compare children to their peers instead of trying to look at each child individually.

  2. Elizabeth and Thesha,
I also really like your first one. I do individualization weekly with the children that focuses on where each child is and where they need to go.

  3. Elizabeth I used the first two in my blog as well! I agree that we must respect that children are very unique and their qualities and abilities are based upon their unique needs! I think that we should look at children on an individual basis, instead of as a "one size fits all" mold!

  6. Elizabeth,
I have enjoyed sharing about our experiences in Head Start! It is encouraging to hear what others are doing in the same program across the country. Keep up the good work! Hopefully we will be in the next course together!
